BACKGROUND
After finishing my B.A., I worked for about a decade in the cultural resource management industry in California, USA. Much of that time was spent managing projects and writing reports, although I did get into the field.
At the turn of the century I studied to become an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, and taught for a semester at the Universidad Anahuac/Mayab in Merida, Mexico.
Around the same time, I began translating scientific articles for researchers in the Mérida metropolitan area, in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. My clientele quickly expanded to include researchers from all over Mexico, as well as European defense companies, pharmaceutical companies, tourist agencies and tourist magazines, individuals with an endless variety of legal documents, and even the Yucatan state government.
After about five years of total work madness, it became clear to me that I had to specialize if I was ever going to get enough sleep. Academic texts have always been my preferred product, so in late 2005 I decided to concentrate on academic documents, and have been at it for the last nineteen years. During this time, I have worked on texts ranging from applied physics to zoology, and botany to psychiatry. Every discipline has its own terminology and writing style, and that is what keeps it interesting and challenging. And seeing my work published in international journals (though rarely credited) is its own reward.
